UDI and UNE have extended the suspension of the duty to return to Iran by five months, until 20 September 2026. During this period, the police will not carry out forced returns to Iran. This applies to Iranian nationals who have received a final rejection.
The situation in the Middle East has developed significantly in recent months. UDI is closely monitoring developments. At present, there are no changes in regulations or in the general prioritisation of cases.
The Norwegian government has decided that men between the ages of 18 and 60 will no longer be covered by the scheme for temporary collective protection. This applies to persons who apply on or after 5 May 2026. Those who already have collective protection are NOT affected.
The collective protection scheme for Ukrainian refugees has been extended by one year. If you already have collective protection, your permit will be renewed automatically.
Following the fall of Assad's regime, UDI has resumed processing Syrian asylum applications from 25 December 2025. UDI currently has just under 5,000 Syrian cases waiting to be processed.
